North Carolina Emergency Physician Receives National Research Award from the ACEP

New Orleans — Jeffrey A. Kline, MD, FACEP, director of research in emergency medicine and director of the Emergency Medicine Research Program at Carolinas Medical Center, has received the Award for Outstanding Contribution in Research from the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) during its annual meeting in New Orleans.

“Dr. Kline is an emergency physician with a passion for research,” said Dr. Brian Keaton, president of ACEP.” Colleagues consider him a ‘shining light’ in his field who has advanced emergency medicine with his highly innovative research on pulmonary embolism.”

Dr. Kline serves as assistant professor of emergency medicine, an adjunct professor in the University of North Carolina’s interdisciplinary doctoral program, and co-founder of BreathQuant Medical Systems, a company dedicated to non-invasive PE diagnosis techniques. The primary focus of Dr. Kline’s pulmonary embolism research is on screening, risk stratification and treatment. His studies on screening for pulmonary embolism led to the “PE rule out” procedure - a decision rule now used at Carolinas Medical Center.

Dr. Kline received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia and completed his residency and fellowship training at Carolinas Medical Center. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in Annals of Emergency Medicine and is a lecturer at national and international conferences.
