HELSINKI — A Finnish court has convicted and sentenced a 27-year-old nurse to life in prison for murdering an elderly, disabled patient and attempting to murder a baby with insulin shots.
A district court said Tuesday that Katariina Lonnqvist was guilty of deliberately injecting a patient with lethal doses of insulin at a care center in southern Finland two years ago. The court says she also attempted to kill a relative’s 8-month-old child with insulin shots.
Lonnqvist said she will appeal the sentence passed by the court, in Tampere, 105 miles (170 kilometers) north of Helsinki. A life sentence in Finland means convicts must serve at least 12 years in prison.
