YORK, Pa. — The Volunteer Firemen’s Insurance Services (VFIS), a division of Glatfelter Insurance Group, is celebrating 50 years of providing insurance to first responders.
Founded by Arthur J. Glatfelter in 1969, the company was created with the intention of giving back to those who serve their communities.
“Art wanted to make a difference and serve people in every way he could,” Tony Campisi, president and CEO of Glatfelter Insurance Group, said in a press release. “Not just by selling them a policy, but by making sure that he understood their motivations, their aspirations, their needs – and then, he saw it as his responsibility to help them achieve those things by managing the risks that they were going to be taking along the way.”
To ensure that the company fully understands the needs of their customers, they work within the industry and hire associates who are current and former first responders.
Troy Market, president of VFIS, said the company continues to grow and look for ways they can better accommodate their customers.
“The role of fire departments has greatly expanded over the past 50 years,” Markel said. “As we developed new coverages and expanded our offerings to match their needs, we’ve also become a valuable resource for everything that encompasses fire and emergency medical services.”
VFIS provides insurance coverage packages for emergency organizations, serving fire departments, ambulance centers, rescue squads, 911 dispatch centers and others.
“As our founder Mr. Glatfelter said, ‘We’re in the business of paying claims fairly and promptly,’” Markel said. “Our claims culture and industry commitment always has been, and always will be, essential to the mission of our organization.”
