GRANDE PRAIRIE, Alberta — The County of Grande Prairie has made a $30,000 contribution to the EMS Foundation for a mobile training unit that will put practitioners in real-life situations.
“We’re talking right from injury or illness, car accident in the ditch. To right upstairs into the (hospital’s) Intensive Care Unit operating room,” said JoAnn Cazakoff, manager of the Regional EMS Foundation.
The $350,000 training unit will simulate the back of an ambulance and will allow practitioners to train in a working environment. The training mechanism is essentially an ambulance box sitting on an International chassis. It will feature all of the bells and whistles of a real ambulance, including mannequin patients that can reflect real life symptoms or injury.
