CLAREMONT, Calif. — Two teenagers struck by lightning likely avoided serious injuries because they were holding hands.
Doctors believe the the fact that they were holding hands helped to diffuse the electrical current that ran through their bodies, CBS Los Angeles reports.
The couple, Dylan and Lexie, were struck Thursday while walking down a tree-lined street in Claremont.
“Next thing you know, we are on the ground and we gave each other the most terrified looks you could possibly imagine,” Lexie said. “It was definitely weird. I kind of thought there was an earthquake.”
Lightning struck 978 times Thursday in the Bay Area during a dry storm.
