WELD COUNTY, Colo. — A south Weld County woman and former volunteer firefighter will spend the next three years on probation while paying off more than $11,000 in costs for a series of fake suicide and ambulance calls she made to authorities last year.

Caryn Sodaro, 44, of Lochbuie pleaded guilty earlier this month to a felony count of attempting to influence a public servant in a case in which she made 48 phony suicide and ambulance calls, sending authorities on wild goose chases to find the supposedly distraught caller.

Weld District Court Judge Gilbert Gutierrez on Tuesday sentenced her to the probation term, plus two more weeks in jail to add to her already 75 days served. While on probation, she’ll have to get mental health treatment and perform 480 hours of public service. She also will have to repay the Weld County Sheriff’s Office $11,257.40 for the man-hours expended on those calls.
