Nashwauk Ambulance Service Enters Fifth Year Of Online Employee Scheduling With EMS Manager

In their fifth year of online employee scheduling, Nashwauk Ambulance Service gets more than they expect out of EMS Manager.

HUDSON, WI - Into their fifth year, Nashwauk Ambulance Service (NAS) is still finding EMS Manager meeting and exceeding their scheduling needs. As a paid volunteer service where members respond to calls from their homes, NAS needed a scheduling system that made sense for how they operated - and having a paper billboard schedule at the base station, requiring members come in or call to learn the call schedule wasn’t it. In the winter of 2007, EMS Coordinator Karen Calaguire decided it was time to try something new to help with their scheduling woes and decided to try an Aladtec online scheduling system called, EMS Manager.

Calaguire remembers, “As manager of our service, I needed to find a way to make scheduling as easy and painless as possible for my employees. The scheduling process should be viewable and usable from the comfort of their own home or on-the-go from their smartphones. I was looking for a user-friendly and clutter-free system that had addons allowing me to track employee scheduling and other data. Pricing was also a factor in choosing a scheduling system. I heard about EMS Manager through web searches and ads in public safety magazines and after trying a demo, I knew it was the answer to our problems.”

On top of employee scheduling, EMS Manager provides many more applications for Nashwauk Ambulance Service. Over the years, Calaguire and the rest of the NAS staff have enjoyed using the built-in library and its massive 200GB of online storage for continuing education tracking. The member database serves as their hub for tracking employee credentials and the integrated reporting provides different views of productivity data. One feature in particular Calaguire still gets a lot of use from is the ability to send emails/text messages to employees directly from the system.

The most important feature over the years, shares Calaguire, is that members have their schedule accessible from home or on their handheld which translates into “employees showing up for their scheduled call shift!! It has taken all my headaches out of scheduling by making my employees more accountable. As a volunteer paid on call service, we are bit different from a full-time department and this system meets and exceeds my needs for scheduling!”

The Nashwauk Ambulance Service is one of over 130 public safety agencies within Minnesota and Wisconsin who use EMS Manager or FIRE Manager for employee scheduling and workforce management. Located in Nashwauk, Minnesota, NAS has been in operation for over 50 years serving the Itasca County population of 5,000 and performing over 500 runs annually.
