911 callers don’t always realize intricacies of dispatcher’s job

Communications supervisor: Callers ‘get irate with us because they just want help’

NAPLES, Fla. — The three 911 calls came in almost simultaneously.

It was just after 9 p.m. on Jan. 1, that shots rang out inside a North Naples apartment complex. Seventeen-year-old Jake Couture had been fatally shot, and Collier County’s 911 dispatchers were struggling to get the basics — who, what, where.

“Just come, please. Just come,” one of the callers implored.
