BARSTOW, Calif. — Thirteen people went to area hospitals after an ambulance and two other vehicles collided Friday morning.

The crash occurred in the northbound lane of Barstow Road, just south of Virginia Way, at about 10:20 a.m., said Barstow Fire Protection District Capt. Nick DiNapoli. The three-car rear-end collision involved a sedan, a sports utility vehicle and a Desert Ambulance Service ambulance that was transporting a patient with unspecified health problems.

The four people in the sedan, six in the sports utility vehicle, and the patient and two paramedics from the ambulance were all taken to area hospitals by ambulance, DiNapoli said. All had “minor to moderate injuries,” he said, including back and neck injuries and possible fractures. Eleven of the patients went to Barstow Community Hospital and two went to St. Mary Medical Center in Apple Valley.
