PALM SPRINGS, Calif. — Nearly two years after ambulance operator/paramedic assistant Kohl Hetrick was critically injured in a head-on collision with a wrong-way drunk driver, the now-22-year-old is adjusting to life without his dream career.
Hetrick, who was also a paid-call firefighter with the Riverside and San Bernardino county fire departments, can no longer perform the job due to injuries from the crash.
“I don’t know if I’ll find anything I’ll enjoy more or love as much as that job,” he said in a recent interview with The Desert Sun.
