LARGO — Sunstar Paramedics and four employees have received state honors.
Emergency medical technician Brandon Walters received the state’s EMT of the Year award for his demonstration of independent initiative in the areas that included patient care, public education initiatives and support, involvement, and dedication in the emergency medical services community. Cheryl Meyers, paramedic and 911 public safety telecommunicator/emergency medical dispatcher, received the state Dispatcher of the Year award for her efforts in processing medical emergency and nonemergency phone calls.
EMT Jodi Coffee was awarded the Florida Neonatal and Pediatric Transport Network Association-Transport Member of the Year Award for her work and dedication to the All Children’s Hospital transport unit. Nerina Stepanovsky, a part-time critical care nurse, was awarded the Air and Surface Transport Nurses Association Beth Rogers Transport Nurse of the Year Award.
Along with the four employees recognized for their excellence in EMS, Sunstar Paramedics won the EMS Photo of the Year and the EMS Video of the Year awards.
The awards, sponsored by the Emergency Medicine and Learning Resource Center and Florida’s Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services, honored outstanding Florida EMS organizations and individuals who have made a positive impact on emergency medical services throughout the state.
