SUFFIELD, Conn. — The Suffield Volunteer Ambulance Association has hired a local resident to be its new chief.

Guy Henry, 42, is a captain and shift supervisor in the Bradley International Airport fire department. He has also been an assistant chief and paramedic with the East Windsor Ambulance Association.

Jeanine Rose, president of the Suffield Volunteer Ambulance Association, said Monday that Henry had been chosen from more than 30 candidates in a six-month search. He starts in Suffield this week.

Henry replaces Arthur Groux, who left in March to take on the position of Enfield’s director of medical services. As chief, Henry will be a town employee.

“I’m very excited,” Henry said. `"I can’t wait to get the ball rolling.”

Rose said many of the association members already know Henry from his work with the East Windsor ambulance and Bradley airport.

“We are delighted to have someone who is such a good fit for our needs, and as an extra bonus, he already lives here in town,” Rose said.

Henry said he will maintain the association’s history of being made up primarily of volunteers. The association has four paid paramedics, two part-time emergency medical technicians and two paid administrative workers among its 70 members.

Henry said being chief of an ambulance association has been a goal. Being hired by the town in which he lives provides the best of both worlds, he said.

Rose said Henry will work three-quarters of the full-time job. Stanley Osowiecki, who has been acting chief, will work the remaining time until Henry retires from the Bradley department in about a year.

Henry said he appreciates that the association is allowing him to work around his schedule at Bradley.
