HAVERHILL, Mass. — Firefighter Jeffrey Given’s lawyer said the city is putting pressure on Given so he will testify against another alleged conspirator in the statewide EMT recertification scandal.
Given allegedly worked with Leo Nault, former Trinity EMS ambulance company training officer, to obtain fraudulent EMT recertifications for firefighters and private ambulance workers. Nault, who was recently fired by Trinity, was in charge of obtaining the recertifications from the Office of Emergency Medical Services, a division of the state Public Safety Department.
Yesterday, Given sat through a four-hour civil service hearing at City Hall where the recommendation from fire Chief Richard Borden to fire Given as a firefighter was considered.
