BRANDON, Miss. — A paramedic injured in the line of duty last year celebrates life, love and recovery as she married the love of her life Saturday.
WJTV.com reported that AMR medic Jennifer Hesselbein was seriously injured in July 2013 when she and her partner stopped their ambulance to help a man knocked down in the middle of the street after being hit by a car.
Another car hit her when she tried to get the man, who later died, according to the report.
Hesselbein was hit on her left side, causing multiple life-threatening injuries from her head to her foot.
She lost her left eye and has gone through 30 surgeries. Last month, her lower left leg was amputated, according to the report.
Prior to her injuries, Hesselbein was engaged to be married to another AMR team member, medic Andrew Aycox.
They exchanged their vows at the Heart of Pines.
