SHARON, Pa. — A 10-year-old was made an honorary paramedic for a day after sending an EMS department a “thank you” letter for trying to save his dying father.

Sharon Herald reported that Eric Hudson called Mercer County 911 on Oct. 28 when he found his father unresponsive at home. His father died after an extended illness.

“He was the most composed child I’ve ever seen,” Courtney Ivan, co-owner of Elite EMS, said. “He even called his principal to let her know he couldn’t come to school.”

Eric also toured the police and fire departments. He got to sit in the driver’s seat of a police cruiser and was welcomed by the Mercer County Critical Incident Response Team at Hermitage Fire and Rescue Station 1. Chief John Flynn took Eric around the station, made him gear up and took him for a ride in a fire truck. Eric also went to the Mercer County 911 call center.
