LONDON — A woman decided to become a paramedic after being severely injured in a horrific car crash.
BBC reported that Molly Tarawally, who was about to begin a geography degree, was saved by paramedics on the side of the road after her car was crushed between two trucks.
EMS provider Rebecca Kenny responded to the incident and said it was “the worst car crash” she’d ever witnessed.
Tarawally suffered broken bones, pelvic damage and facial injuries as a result of the crash, and was extricated from her car and treated for more than an hour before being transported to the hospital.
While recovering for 10 days in the hospital, Tarawally changed her mind about pursuing a geography degree and made the decision to switch to paramedicine.
“It gave me a lot of thinking time and it was while I was in hospital I decided I wanted to work for the NHS,” she said.
She is now getting her Paramedic Science degree and works for the London Ambulance Service.
“On one of my shifts I saw a paramedic who looked familiar,” she said. “It turns out he was one of the paramedics who treated me after my accident. He helped to save my life. Now I am saving lives.”
Kenny said Tarawally’s story was “incredibly inspiring.”
“To come through something like that and channel it into something positive … I’m sure she will have a fantastic future as a paramedic.”
