GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — A former paramedic accused of killing his wife in 2018 was arrested this week for allegedly setting equipment on fire inside of a medical helicopter in 2019.
Joshua Hunsucker, a former Atrium Health paramedic, was arrested Monday on felony burning of personal property charges, according to WBTV. He is accused of intentionally setting fire to a piece of medical equipment on the aircraft during a Nov. 26, 2019 flight, forcing the helicopter to make an emergency landing in Charlotte, according to a police report.
Further details about the fire were not reported. Less than a month after the November 2019 incident, Hunsucker was arrested on a first-degree murder charge in relation to the 2018 death of his wife Stacy. Hunsucker is accused of killing his wife by poisoning her with Visine eye drops in order to receive a $250,000 life insurance payout.
Hunsucker’s bond was set at $1.5 million; he bonded out of jail on Dec. 24, 2019, according to WBTV.
Hunsucker was terminated by Atrium Health following his initial arrest, effective Dec. 20, 2019.
