PHOENIX, Ariz. — The chances of surviving a heart attack are best if you live in Arizona, according to a three-year study that credits a higher number of dispatchers giving CPR instructions over the phone.
Funded by the Medtronic Foundation and conducted by the HeartRescue Project the study found that with dispatcher instructions, CPR began 23 seconds earlier, ABC15 reports.
The pre-arrival CPR guidelines were implemented in Arizona in 2012.
Seventy percent of Americans also don’t know how to administer CPR, or their training has significantly lapsed, according to the American Heart Association.
