TAMPA, Fla. — Florida health officials say a man who attended the EMS Today conference in Tampa last week has tested positive for novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
The Florida Department of Health said the patient is a 70-year-old man from Broward County, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
Precautions were taken at the conference as organizers monitored the ongoing outbreak, according to the EMS Today website, including increased cleaning and disinfecting of surfaces, availability of hand sanitizers and disinfectants, and training of staff members to take preventative measures.
Officials say the patient is now in isolation and an “epidemiological investigation” is underway to determine how he may have contracted the virus.
Those who attended the conference and are not feeling well are being asked to call their local health department or doctor, and self-isolate for 14 days, according to WTSP.
