UK medics to star in new kids TV show

‘Operation Ouch’ give youngsters taste of what happens when ambulance is called

BIRMINGHAM, England — Paramedics from the West Midlands have landed a starring role in a new kids’ TV series.

Staff from West Midlands Ambulance Service are featured in new CBBC medical show Operation Ouch, which hits our screens today.

The show is fronted by identical twins Dr Chris and Dr Xand van Tullekenand who give youngsters a taste of what happens in A&E departments across the country.

West Midlands staff are featured responding to 999 calls and treating patients.

Among those who took part was paramedic Jan Vann.

She said: “It was very enjoyable being filmed doing my job as a paramedic and will hopefully help children understand the roll of the ambulance service in real emergencies.

“It will help take away the fear factor of some of the medical equipment we use and also going in an ambulance.

“Hopefully it will also help educate youngsters on what kind of situation you should call 999 for medical help.”

The 13-part series aims to de-mystify the medical world for younger viewers, by showing them what inside hospitals and what happens when an ambulance is called.

Each episode will feature children admitted to the A&E wards, following their journey from diagnosis through to recovery and treatment.

The series also features a number of cartoons to explain how the human body works.
