STUART, Fla. — A retired paramedic was recently honored for his volunteer efforts after serving more than 350 hours in 2017.
TC Palm reported that retired paramedic Mike Flanagan is a member of the Medical Reserve Corps, which is an organization committed to improving health and safety through volunteer work.
Flanagan was given an award by the Florida Department of Health and the Medical Reserve Corps for his dedication to volunteering to help others.
“Mike has gone above and beyond in the last couple of years,” Florida Department of Health emergency preparedness coordinator Lisa Poziomek said. “He is kind, compassionate and has a great sense of humor. He has helped out with so many projects, including mosquito prevention outreach, teaching CPR classes and most recently at our Special Needs Shelter during Hurricane Irma.”
Flanagan said he enjoys the adventures he gets to go on through volunteering his time.
“I have volunteered my whole life. I believe it’s something that we all should do. It’s the right way to support the community,” Flanagan said.
