Patient dies in Va. ambulance crash

Charges pending after bus hit ambulance with lights and sirens running

WACHAPREAGUE, Va. — A male patient being transported in an ambulance died following a collision with a bus, WMDT and DelmarvaNow report.

Douglas R. McCready, 60, died at the scene, ABC13 reports.

Four paramedics were inside the Bloxom Volunteer Fire Company ambulance during the collision with a STAR Transit bus, which occurred at the intersection of Wachapreague Road and Lankford Highway. They were treated at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital and released.

Va. State Police are investigating the cause of the crash, and charges are pending.

Police said the ambulance had lights and sirens on while transporting McCready. It was struck by a STAR Transit bus as it went through the intersection, and the ambulance flipped several times.

The driver of the bus wasn’t hurt.

Onancock Volunteer Fire Department and Bloxom Volunteer Fire Company responded to the crash.
