BISMARK, N.D. — A truck driver will likely be cited in a collision with an ambulance carrying a mother and baby.
North Dakota Highway Patrol Lt. Jamie Huschka told the Bismarck Tribune that whether truck driver Paul Graham, 45, is cited or not depends on the outcome of an investigation into the crash.
It occurred at a busy intersection when an ambulance pulling off of Highway 68 onto Highway 85 was struck by an oncoming pickup. Three EMS providers – LeRoy DeFoe, Jim Johnsrud and Yvonne Johnsrud, along with Ashley Amatao, 19, and her infant, were all treated for minor injuries and released.
EMS initially responded to a call for the infant, who fell from an unsecured car seat at a truck stop near the intersection where the crash occurred. A second ambulance was dispatched after the collision.
Huschka said the truck driver refused medical assistance. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, but it’s unclear why the driver didn’t stop or slow to give the ambulance the right of way.
The N.D. Department of Transportation plans to reduce the speed limit and install stop lights at the intersection.
