WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — Paramedics helped rescue a woman who had been stuck behind a bus stop bench for hours.
News Channel 8 reported that the woman was first spotted by Citrus Connection road supervisor Caroline Hird as she was on her way to work.
“I have a habit of when I come to work that I’m always checking our bus stops,” Hird said. “It looked as if it was a child dangling over the bench, so I turned around in the parking lot. I pulled up to the stop and I blow the horn to see if the person is going to wake up, or just what is going on. She attempted to wave at me. I put the window down and I said, ‘Are you okay?’ And she said ‘No.’ I said, ‘Do you need 911?’ And she said ‘Yes.’”
When paramedics arrived, they had to take the bench almost completely apart in order to free the woman, who Hird said “was disoriented” and “didn’t really remember” what happened.
Paramedics said the woman could have suffered a medical emergency and transported her to the hospital.
“She was like, ‘You saved my life.’ So I do appreciate that, and that’s just what we do. That’s an everyday thing. When we see things going on, if we can help, most definitely all of my coworkers, our operators, if we can help that’s what we do,” Hird said.
