FDNY Responded to Nearly 22,000 Cardiac Arrest Incidents in 2013
First Deputy Fire Commissioner Robert R. Turner II, NYC Service Chief Service Officer Paula Gavin and John Shea from DOE, will unveil “Be 911: Teens Take Heart,” a new CPR training initiative for New York City high school students on Tuesday, December 9, at 9 a.m. at FDNY High School – Thomas Jefferson Campus Auditorium, 400 Pennsylvania Avenue, Brooklyn. This new life-saving educational program is taught by the FDNY Mobile CPR Training Unit and funded by more than $300,000 in grants from NYC Service and FDNY Foundation.
“Be 911: Teens Take Heart” is the first program of its kind in New York City, teaching high school students compressions-only CPR – a skill critical to help save the life of a patient in cardiac arrest. The program will also educate students on cardiovascular health, encouraging a heart healthy lifestyle.
