LEMOORE, Calif. — One group of students at West Hills College Lemoore are learning skills that could mean the difference between life and death.
The college launched its new paramedic program this week, the only college in the region to offer a paramedic associate’s degree, along with a certificate pathway for people who want to get back into the workforce as quickly as possible. Sixteen students have signed up for the year-long course.
“I’m really excited that we’re finally getting this program started,” said program Instructor Ralph Herrera. “It’s been a long road to get here and I’m excited to see where this takes us.” Herrera said the program has been in development for the past three years after the college received a $19 million multi-year grant from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration.
