EL CENTRO, Calif. — Federal mediators arrived Tuesday to assist with negotiations between Gold Cross Ambulance employees on strike and the company.
Negotiations were actually taking place on the strike line, which “is extremely rare in a labor dispute,” Teamsters Local 542 president Phil Farias said. “We’ve given them a proposal and they’re working on a counter proposal.”
Roughly 60 employees went on strike July 28 and picketers have been at the corner of Vine Street and Imperial Avenue 24 hours a day since then. Those on strike are requesting better working conditions, a pay increase, no cuts to medical benefits and general improvement of employee treatment.
