BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. — A 19-month-old boy remained in critical condition at a Lee County hospital Tuesday after his mother found him in the pool Saturday at the family’s San Carlos Park home.

Shortly before 10 a.m., Heather Lee Madden noticed her son, Eric Madden Jr., in the pool not breathing and called 911 for help. Her husband, Eric Madden, a Bonita Springs firefighter, began performing CPR.

The 19-month-old was taken to HealthPark Medical Center and has remained in critical condition since then, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

A blood bank had been accepting O+ and O- blood for Eric Jr., but due to an “overwhelming response,” there were enough donations to last for three weeks, said Nicole Hornberger, Bonita Springs Fire administrative coordinator.

“It’s possible in a few weeks we’ll know a little more about what he needs,” she said. “Really just what we need is as much prayer as we can get.”
