CARDIFF, Wales — A car overturned and its passengers were taken to hospital with injuries after it collided with an on-call ambulance.

The two female ambulance crew members involved in the incident managed to tend to the driver of the car, despite suffering from minor injuries themselves.

Three more ambulances were dispatched to the scene at a crossroads in Talbot Green, near Llantrisant, yesterday where the collision happened around 3.25pm.

A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance service said it was not yet aware of the circumstances surrounding the incident.

He said: “The ambulance was on its way to a call when it was involved in a collision with a car which then overturned.

“The scene of the crash was not far from the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, so a senior ambulance officer and a doctor were able to get there quickly.”

The male driver of the car was taken to the Royal Glamorgan Hospital in Llantrisant by ambulance after suffering injuries said to be “more serious” than his passenger, but they were said not to be life threatening.

His female passenger suffered minor injuries but was also taken to hospital, as were the two female ambulance crew.

South Wales Police said they would be carrying out an investigation into the crash, and are also appealing for witnesses.
