WEST SUSSEX, England — A couple were seriously injured yesterday after their car collided with an ambulance rushing to attend a 999 emergency.

The driver and front seat passenger had to be cut from the wrecked car.

The two-man ambulance crew suffered minor injuries in the collision.

The paramedics - who had been travelling with siren and blue lights on - helped to treat the man and woman at the scene before colleagues arrived to rush them to hospital.

Yesterday Sussex Police were investigating the crash at Wickford Bridge, near Horsham, West Sussex.

A South East Coast Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed: “One of our ambulances responding to an emergency call was involved in a collision.”
