NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Authorities say a 2-year-old boy who was hit on the head by a large rock during a family hike at the bottom of some falls in a Tennessee park is in critical condition.

Tim and Tiffany Brown told WSMV-TV in Nashville that they were hiking in Fall Creek Falls State Park when the rock struck their son Saturday. Caleb Brown was listed in critical condition Tuesday at T.C. Thompson Children’s Hospital in Chattanooga.

Tim Brown said another hiker who is an emergency medical technician checked his son’s pulse and helped them. As they took their child out, the Browns were also aided by other park visitors, including some nurses and a doctor.

WSMV-TV reported investigators are trying to determine if the rock fell on its own.
