DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Mark D. Skelly was looking forward to the future after slipping a ring on his fiancee’s finger in a surprise proposal at the Magic Kingdom on Valentine’s Day.
But the longtime emergency medical technician and community volunteer suddenly became ill last week and died Monday. He was 38.
Skelly, who had worked for EVAC ambulance since 1998 and was based out of the Port Orange station, left work last Wednesday morning after telling workers he was not feeling well, EVAC officials said. About five hours later, his co-workers responded to a 911 call by his fiancee. They rushed him to Halifax Health Medical Center where he was later admitted to the intensive care unit, EVAC spokesman Mark O’Keefe said.
