FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The paramedic who had the tables turned on him after becoming the victim of a hit and run accident in February is back home from the hospital, but the road to recovery that awaits him is long and painful.

Sunrise Paramedic Steve Grimstead, 50, shared his story exclusively with CBS4’s Evan Bacon Thursday night.

Grimstead was responding to a shooting scene on Commercial Boulevard on February 22nd when Yolanda Bell struck him with her 2006 Buick Rendezvous by a gas station. Instead of treating the shooting victim he intended to help at the scene, Grimstead did not realize what hit him until he found paramedics hovering over him instead.
