Paramedics are usually called once or twice each year to Santa Fe high schools to respond to sports injuries and the like.

But ambulance sirens were sounded twice in one day at Capital High School on Thursday.

During the first lunch period, a student had an epileptic seizure, while another was sent to the hospital with an unspecified heart condition during the second lunch period.

“It was one of those days,” principal Darlene Ulibarri said.

Capital and Santa Fe high schools have registered nurses on staff. During enrollment, some parents sign a form authorizing the schools to automatically call 911 in case of a medical emergency, officials said.
