MAPLEGROVE TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Twin Township Ambulance has posted a surviellance video of a June 23, 2016 collision which completely destroyed the ambulance’s patient care compartment.
The incident, which happened when a car driver ran through a stop sign, only resulted in minor injuries to the paramedic driving the ambulance. The driver of the car had non-life threatening injuries.
The ambulance was being driven back to its station after receiving scheduled maintenance.The paramedic driving the ambulance was the only occupant. After the collision a second crew member, trailing in another ambulance, requested backup and began patient triage.
The force of the collision seperated the patient care compartment from the vehicle’s chasis. A state patrol officer, described the accident and tweeted photos. “The accident scene looks horrible and the ambulance disintegrated,” Lt. Kaiser, Michigan State Police said.

Twin Township Ambulance posted the video to raise awareness about ambulance patient and EMS professional safety and to provide information to manufacturers, engineers and lawmakers to help improve the safety of ambulance operations.
