PHILADELPHIA — When a Philadelphia man saw an ambulance outside of a hospital, authorities say he hopped in and drove away.

The paramedics were inside the Methodist Hospital on the 2300 block of South Broad Street in Philadelphia when their ambulance was stolen around 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, Action News 6 ABC is reporting.

According to reports, there was a brief chase to the 1300 block of Christian Street, where police took a man in his forties into custody.

But it looks like he won’t be charged, and there may have been a mental-health issue involved.

“He actually believed he was a fire department employee driving this medic unit, and he was talking about going on some runs,” police Chief Inspector Scott Small told Action News 6.

No injuries were reported.
