EL PASO, Texas — Responders are urging the public to take caution after a pediatric ambulance was sideswiped while transporting a patient.
KFOXTV reported that the Elite Medical Transport ambulance was transporting a patient in critical condition when a semi-truck sideswiped the rig.
“Had the impact occurred just 6 inches to the left, this would be a much different story and a much different angle. But fortunately, we have five-point restraints in the back and state-of-the-art restraint system for the patient,” Elite Medical Transport staff member Rob Campion said.
No injuries occurred and the damage to the ambulance was minimal, but the incident highlights an increase in crashes involving emergency vehicles due to a growing number of distractions on the road.
“Really for us the concern would be the patient, the family and the crew that’s on board. Those things can’t be replaced,” Campion said. “This ambulance provides a critical link between other communities and the care available here at the hospital.”
The ambulance is equipped with a camera, so responders have the information of the semi-truck that was involved in the incident.
