Four-wheel drive vehicles gifted from the city of Santa Fe

SANTA FE, N.M. — Torrance County recently received two ambulances from the city of Santa Fe that will be used in the Tajique and Torreon Fire Department.

The department was surprised with the addition last Thursday.

“The ambulances are in excellent condition,” County Commissioner Venessa Chavez-Gutierrez said. “They are four-wheel drive and we were fortunate enough for Santa Fe to donate them to us.”

It hasn’t been decided where the second ambulance will be used, Chavez-Gutierrez said, but she pointed out that the village of Willard doesn’t have an ambulance, either.

“I want to make sure every place in my district has an ambulance, but we’re still working out the details,” she said.

The addition of the ambulances will help cut down on response time in the often hard-to-reach mountainous areas of the county.

“This is going to be really great,” Chavez-Gutierrez said. “And having the fourwheel drive will be an even better asset for the people who live in the Fourth of July and Sherwood Forest areas.”
