MASON CITY, Iowa — Five people were injured and a firefighter was ticketed following a collision with an SUV on Sunday in Iowa.

Mason City Firefighter Schuyler Townsend was cited for failure of caution of an emergency vehicle, according to The Globe Gazette.

He and Firefighter Peter Bieber were transporting a patient at the time of the accident.

The ambulance was broadsided by a Chevrolet Tahoe in an intersection. Firefighter Townsend had slowed for a red light but then continued through the intersection.

The driver of the SUV said that he didn’t see the ambulance until it was too late.

The driver, his son, the two firefighters and the patient riding in the ambulance were all treated for minor injuries at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, and the patient was transferred to another ambulance at the scene.
