CHICAGO — A Chicago-based ambulance provider is the first in the country to equip ambulances with Google Glass.
With approval from the Illinois Department of Public Health, MedEx is rolling out 10 ambulances installed with the telemedicine technology that allows emergency responders to use real-time audio and video to connect with emergency rooms and coordinate care, HIT Consultant reports.
The company is also using Pristine’s EyeSight HIPAA-compliant software, and spent $250,000 over the past two years developing the Google Glass pilot program at The Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.
MedEx plans to expand the program to more area hospitals in 2015.
