LUBBOCK, Texas — Lubbock police are investigating a two-vehicle accident that left one person dead and three people with life-threatening injuries Friday morning, Jan. 10, in east Lubbock.
Abraham Molina, 26, died after the pickup truck in which he was a passenger was struck about 12:54 a.m. by another vehicle in the 900 block of 34th Street.
Investigators believe 25-year-old Fabian Garcia was driving a 2007 Chrysler 300 passenger car southbound on the 3300 block of the I-27 access road.
As Garcia approached the 34th Street intersection, he reportedly ran a red light and collided with the westbound 1989 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck driven by Jonathan Perez, according to a Lubbock Police Department report.
Firefighters extracted Molina from the vehicle.
Perez, who suffered life-threatening injuries, exited the vehicle on his own but collapsed on the scene and lost consciousness, according to the report.
Both men were taken by ambulance to University Medical Center where Molina was pronounced dead.
Perez was listed in satisfactory condition, according to a UMC house supervisor.
The passenger in the Chrysler suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Covenant Medical Center.
Investigators believe alcohol or drugs were involved in the wreck.
Sgt. Robert Hook with Lubbock police accident investigation said officers are still investigating the scene to determine what charges will be filed.
