7th Ward EMS was transporting a patient to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center on Thursday when the ambulance caught fire on Franklin Street near the Hickory Street Bridge in Johnstown, authorities said. The 9:40 a.m. fire started near the heater, 7th Ward Manager Michael Brawley said.

The medic pulled over after noticing an odd smell, he said. No one was injured. A second 7th Ward ambulance drove the patient to the hospital, he said. The vehicle was a total loss, but Brawley said they have another ambulance and operations will be unaffected.
