TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A newly-signed bill will provide $1.15 million for a woman involved in a crash with an ambulance.

WCTV reported Florida Gov. Rick Scott signed the bill last week to award the money to Angela Sanford. Sanford and her husband were driving home from a concert when they were T-boned by a Leon County EMS ambulance.

“You hear people say your life can change in the blink of an eye, but you don’t realize it until it happens to you,” Sanford’s husband said.

The ambulance was responding to a head-on collision when they crashed into the couple’s SUV at over 40 mph.

Angela, who was in the passenger’s seat, was in a coma and suffered a broken pelvis, two broken legs and a traumatic brain injury. She spent a month in the ICU and five weeks in rehab.

“She had periods of not knowing me, not knowing who the kids were. I would show her pictures and she didn’t recognize the kids,” her husband said.

The Sanford family filed a lawsuit against Leon County for $10 million. The county’s insurance offered $200,000.

The driver of the ambulance was suspended for three days without pay and had to take a driving course.
