LOUISVILLE, Ky. — First responders across several Kentucky counties held a birthday parade in Louisville for a paramedic critically injured in an ambulance crash earlier this month.

The Bullitt County EMS paramedic remains in critical condition at the University of Louisville Hospital. First responders from around the state gathered on his birthday and wished him well, WDRB reported.

“We want to help everybody process this,” Angie Estes with Code EMS Peer Support said. “So, what better way than to show support to your friend, your loved one, your acquaintance? Somebody that represents any one of us could have been in that ambulance. So, we want to show everybody in that community we’re first responders and we take care of each other.”

The chain of events that led to the crash began with the pursuit and crash of a stolen car. Police said three teenagers stole a car and led police on a pursuit that ended in a crash.

The Bullitt County ambulance, transporting an injured teenager from the stolen car incident, was involved in a crash with a tractor-trailer. The paramedic in the back of the ambulance with the patient was ejected.

An EMT driving the ambulance suffered minor injuries.
