NY paramedic hurt in ambulance crash

SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y. — A paramedic was injured in an ambulance crash that occurred while a crew was transporting a patient.

Newsday reported that the Gordon Heights Fire Department ambulance had activated a device that changes red lights to green when it collided with a station wagon.

Police said a paramedic, who was a passenger in the ambulance, was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the ambulance, the patient and the station wagon driver were unharmed.

The driver of the station wagon said he was unable to stop to avoid the crash, according to police. No charges have been filed.
