FLORENCE, S.C. — A South Carolina community is rallying behind a paramedic severely injured in a head-on ambulance crash Wednesday.

WBTW.com reported paramedics Joshua Craig, 29, and Tessie Odom Smith, 47, were injured when a drunk driver drove his pickup truck head-on into their ambulance.

Craig was treated and released while Smith remains hospitalized with serious injuries.

Eva Davis, a close friend of Smith’s, created a GoFundMe page to help cover Smith’s medical expenses and recovery. The community raised more than $11,000 for Smith so far.

A recent post on the GoFundMe page said Smith was going back into surgery to repair her pelvis and that donations have come in from all over the U.S.

“We are amazed with the outpour of donations that have been given for EMT Tessie Odom Smith and her family. Tessie has touched so many people and it shows. Thank you for your support,” the post said.

Smith is still in critical condition but her stability is improving.
