SKOKIE, Ill. — A patient being transported in a Skokie Fire Department ambulance died after the ambulance was involved in a collision with another vehicle Saturday morning.
But an attending doctor told police officers that they think the crash did not contribute to the critically ill patient’s death at Skokie Hospital, ABC7 reported.
The ambulance’s lights are siren were on as EMS providers were transporting the patient in cardiac arrest. The ambulance collided with another vehicle near Gross Point and Golf Road, according to the Skokie Police Department.
“We did have a critical patient in the back of the ambulance which we transferred to another ambulance and continued transporting to the hospital,” said Skokie Battalion Chief William Endre.
None of the four fire department employees was injured. The driver of the other vehicle also was not injured.
“There’s damage to the ambulance and the other car that was involved, but I wouldn’t consider it major damage,” said Endre.
The incident is under investigation.
