ODESSA, Texas — An ambulance partially submerged in floodwater generated a lot of attention on social media after an Odessa resident shared a photo of it on Facebook.
“I saw it when I was driving to work around 5 in the morning,” Michael Hernandez told NewsWest 9.
“I didn’t know it was an ambulance,” he said. “It looked like a donation box out of the corner of my eye.”
Hernandez realized what he saw was in fact an ambulance only when he drove by the intersection again.
“I was talking to my fiancée on the phone and all of a sudden I say, ‘Wait a minute, there’s an ambulance underwater!’” he said. “It was crazy. I couldn’t believe it... The back door was open and there was water inside. It was at least a few feet high.”
The ambulance was identified as a private EMS company’s vehicle.
The company couldn’t be reached for comment, but, according to Hernandez, there was a patient in the ambulance at the moment who was safely extricated and transported to the hospital.
