OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — A Florida EMT is in critical condition after being struck at a crash scene on Sunday.
EMT Dawson Rice, 21, was stopped to assist crash victims in Kissimmee when another driver reportedly veered onto the median in the road and hit him, according to FOX 35.
Rice was transported to the hospital and is being treated for multiple fractures to his left arm and pelvis, a ruptured bladder and other internal injuries, according to his father, who said Rice also had to have his spleen removed.
Police say Alex Shaw, 35, received a citation for careless driving after striking Rice and is scheduled to appear in court. Rice's parents said the citation was not enough and that there should be stronger laws protecting first responders on roadways.
