NAPLES, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol says two people died and six were injured when their vehicle veered off the road, hit a traffic sign and turned over into a southwest Florida canal.
FHP troopers say the 25-year-old driver Johnson Atilard and 17-year-old passenger Daniel Huerta died late Thursday. Six passengers under age 18 were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Their names were not released.
Troopers say the driver failed to negotiate a right curve on a Collier County road. The FHP says alcohol was not a factor and that Atilard and Huerta were wearing seatbelts.
